The Quickest and Easiest Way to Measure Window Blinds

Are you looking for the perfect set of blinds for your window? Well, the first thing that you have to ensure is that your new blinds fit properly. Otherwise, it won’t be the perfect one for your window. While most people may hire specialists to do the entire installation, which includes measuring, it always pays to know how to do some of the tasks yourself. For that, here are a few tips on how to measure blinds and shades the easy way.

The Inside Mount and the Outside Mount

The measurement method that you’ll use depends on how you want to install the blinds. To know how, you just need to remember two things: the inside mount and the outside mount. In a nutshell, these are two methods in which you can mount your blinds.

The inside mount refers to mounting the blinds inside the window frame. The outside mount, on the other hand, refers to mounting the blinds outside the window frame, to make the window look bigger than it actually is. We’ll discuss measurement methods for both of them.

Measuring the Inside Mount

When measuring the inside mount, you’d want to measure the depth of the frame first. This is to ensure that the frame is deep enough to hold the blinds and other accessories you may want to hang on it.

After that, use a measuring tape to measure the nearest ⅛ inch. Measure both the width and the height and note both of them down. When you show this to the store, you have to give the exact measurements.

Specifically, for the width of the inside mount blinds, you have to take one measurement each for the top, middle, and bottom parts of the window. The narrowest width will be your exact measurement. For the height, you need to measure the left side, right side, and center. Your exact amount is the tallest height.

Outside Mount Blinds

For outside mount blinds, you no longer need to measure the depth of the frame because it won’t matter once you install the blinds. So, skip on over to the measuring of width and height.

To measure the width, add at least 3 inches to all sides since you’ll be covering the frame. With this in mind, you can imagine that you’ll be needing a longer measurement. As for the height, you need to add 2.5 inches on all sides to cover the gaps and overlaps in the window.

Once you get your exact measurements, you may now bring them to the store and request for them to give you the blinds of the exact size. As you can see, it’s actually really easy to measure your blinds if you know the concepts of the inside mount and the outside mount styles. All you really need is a measuring tape. You won’t even have to spend more than 20 minutes doing the measuring. With this out of the way, you can now put more effort into choosing the best blinds that will fit your home. After all, the designing part is really the most fun part of the process.
